In January on a cold Sunday afternoon, my boyfriend and I went in a new unit of time to look at their available two bedrooms. For comparison, we looked at a 1 bedroom and ended up liking it more. The guy (who said he was a temp) showed us two available units on the first floor; one on the front side (near the main entrance) and one on the backside (wal-mart view). I obviously didn't want a wal-mart view, and knew we should put in the deposit and application for the one we did like on the main side.
As a side bar, they will probably copy and paste their response to my review...
Anyway, so we fill out the applications, the guy didn't really know what he was doing. He asked us which unit and we said the one on the main side, NOT THE WAL-MART side. Unfortunately, I didn't know what the unit number was, and he ended up putting our application and hold on the Wal-Mart side apartment. I didn't find out in the most pleasant way either. That part comes later.
I was told by Jennifer (assistant property manager) that she would let me know the next day if we were approved. I dropped the check off Monday at lunch and I awaited her phone call... Nothing. Tuesday, I called and spoke to Dexter (property manager) and he was super apologetic, he said he would find out what was happening. Nothing. Wednesday, I talked to Dexter and he said it was still processing. Thursday, we finally found out we were approved. Dexter asked if we wanted to do the walk through and sign the lease over the weekend and I said no we can wait. Well Saturday, I wanted to show my mom the place because I was super excited about my nice new apartment in a wonderful location on the property. We showed up and the lady who was helping us was pretty clueless. She didn't ask for my ID. I told her we had gotten approved and I wanted to show my mom the place. So she found my file, and got the keys and we started walking toward the back of the building... I told her it wasn't in that building, it was in the front. She said that's not possible and asked for the unit number. We showed her which one we looked at and put the deposit on. We went back to the office and it wasn't showing up on her system as vacant. So she calls her manager over (Jennifer) and she says the unit is rented out and someone was moving in RIGHT NOW. I was really upset (understandably) because they were trying to take advantage of me and put me in a unit I didn't want or like! So I tell her we put the deposit down, and we saw it was available when we looked at it. So if we put our deposit down first, it's ours. Not whoever is moving in.
She said she had to talk to the property manager (Dexter) to find out what to do and she would let me know. I told her I needed her to find out ASAP.
So we leave, I'm upset. I have a feeling they won't actually call me back. I call them, no answer. Typical. So I call over and over until someone picks up the phone, Jennifer says she hasn't heard anything and will let me know. My boyfriend calls her back 20 minutes later. After not answering several times, she picks up and says she doesn't know anything. I decide we should just go over there and wait in person so they can't ignore us.
We get there and Jennifer takes us right into her office. Tells us she doesn't know what happened and she's really sorry. Offers to help us find another unit, but they don't have any available. Only the one we didn't want. So we decline and ask for our money back, which she says comes from their home office in Canada.
Long story short, I just got the check yesterday (it took 9 business days when I was "promised" 6-8) and I literally had to call them every day to ask where it was.
There's good places in Clearwater, do your research. I want to make sure this never happens to someone else.
